Jambal, Kerala, India – A mob of about 20 people broke into the home of a young woman from India’s Jambalam district, throwing stones and pelting bottles on the roof of her house, leaving her with burns on her head, legs and arms, her lawyer said.
A police officer has been injured and four other people have been arrested, police said in a statement.
The mob was gathering at the house of a woman in Jambala, a district in Kerala state, after breaking into her home in an attempt to take her jewellery and money, police sources said.
Witnesses told local media that the mob attacked the house after breaking in, with stones and bottles thrown on the house.
The injured woman, who has been identified as Shabnam Singh, was rushed to the local hospital where she was admitted with burns, she said.
The Jambali Police Station has registered a case under Section 354 of the Indian Penal Code (punishment for rioting) for the incident, the station said.
