Panasonic’s new video-on-demand service, SmartShare, hits Australia, New Zealand, UK, Canada and US markets
New Zealand’s Panasonic has rolled out its SmartShare video-sharing service to Australia, Canada, the UK and the US, and it’s already had some success in the US.
The New Zealand-based company says the service will let people share video clips, podcasts and music on the internet without needing to download anything, making it ideal for sharing content on platforms like YouTube.
Panasonic says it’s now adding more video and music sharing apps and platforms to its service, including YouTube, Spotify, Vimeo and Vudu.
Panas SmartShare service was launched in Australia on Friday.
It is available on smartphones, tablets and computers, with no subscription required.

In the UK it’s available on smart TVs, and in the United States it’s on Panasonic Smart TVs.
It’s the first time Panasonic has introduced a video-based video-share service to the US market, and the first to use the technology in the country.
It’s also the first service to be rolled out to the United Kingdom and Australia.
It will also be rolled-out to the rest of the world.
A spokeswoman for Panasonic told the Australian Financial Report that the company has been able to roll out the service in Australia, the US and Canada, and expects to roll it out to other countries as well.
“We are very excited to roll-out our new Panasonic SmartShare app to Australia and other markets, including the United Arab Emirates, New York City, Hong Kong, Singapore and Dubai,” the spokeswoman said.
“The app has already received a lot of positive feedback from our Australian customers, and we are working closely with Panasonic to roll this out as quickly as possible.”
The spokesperson also said the app was available on phones and tablets, with the company offering a free trial of the service.
Panzoom’s Smartshare service is also available in Australia.
A spokeswoman for Panzoom told the Financial Report the company had launched a free version of its Smartshare app for US users.
“Panzampuff has been providing a free mobile app for its Panasonic SmartTV service since the launch of the Panasonic Smart TV in January 2018,” the spokesperson said.
“We are pleased to see Panasonic expanding its service to additional markets such as the US.”
SmartShare’s launch in Australia comes at a time when the company is looking to improve its video-streaming services in the coming years.
Panatoday, which will launch in the second quarter of 2018, is already in Australia and will provide its service in all 50 states and territories.
It will be available in select US states, but not in those that have opted out of the US’s federal broadcast standards.
Panalux has also announced plans to roll the service out to select regions around the world, including Australia, South Africa and New York.
